| Retiree Council |
The Construction & Specialized Workers Union Local 1611 Retiree Council has the largest membership in the Laborers’ International Union of North America, with 1,100 retirees still paying monthly union dues of $8.00 per month.
Why do retired members still pay dues?
- Newsletter twice a year to keep you up to date with the Union activities.
- A dinner or luncheon in your area once a year.
- To keep your medical plan through the Labourers you must be a fully paid up member either through full dues or retired dues. With the benefits involved members can’t see letting their dues go.
- Vancouver area has 4 meetings a year, which are well attended. We have give away prizes, a 50/50 draw, and coffee and donuts after the meeting. At the Christmas luncheon we usually have 400 plus people who have a gourmet meal with wine supplied on the table. Give away prizes include Safeway Gift Certificates, Giant’s Hockey tickets and a huge 50/50 draw.
- Life insurance, if covered by our Benefit Plan, and AD&D benefit.
- Union dues are tax deductable.
If you have any questions or ideas for our Council please call R. L. McDonald, our Retiree Council President at (604) 432-9300.
