LiUNA Local 1611 is committed to providing education financial assistance to our membership and their families through the Roland B. Gordon Scholarships. These are awarded every year to assist eligible students in furthering their post-secondary education, trade or apprenticeship.

The Roland B. Gordon Memorial Scholarship was first offered in 1982. The Executive Board of the Construction and General Workers’ Union Local No. 602 established the scholarship fund upon the acceptance and wishes of the membership. In addition, upon amalgamation in 1997, Local 1070’s Larry W. Pleasant’s Scholarship was incorporated into this fund.

In 1981 the W. Vernie Reed Scholarship Fund was established as a living memorial to the late W. Vernie Reed, General Secretary-Treasurer of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, who represented our Northwest Region. Since that time, the scholarship fund has awarded 307 scholarships totaling over $475,000 to our members, their children and grandchildren from various Local Unions throughout the Region. We should all take great pride that we have established such a fund in memory of one of LiUNA’s past leaders, who fought so hard for every LiUNA! member, Local Union and District Council.
